Material Desire vs Spiritual Needs

“The greedy bring ruin to their households, but the one who hates bribes will live.”

(Proverbs 15:27)

A greedy person wants to possess literally everything that they can put their arms around. That bottomless desire comes from an empty heart. It doesn't matter, materially speaking, how much the person has; it never satiates their thirst. That eventually brings ruin to the household, because it takes from others the item or right in which, in their own perspective, will attend to the insatiable thirst they feel.

Now, Jesus calls our attention to that in His Gospel (Luke 12:15):

“Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.” (Luke 12:15)

Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who think that abundance equals life. As if it is a requirement to have more than what you need to actually be living. The person who lets greed take control of their hearts not only brings destruction to themselves, but will also affect others and the world itself.

We are all witnesses to nature’s destruction, which for years has been promoted in the name of progress. We’ve been negligently using its natural resources, disregarding the consequences of it.

But global warming is here. The weather is changing drastically, the sea levels are increasing drastically; all in a way never seen before, affecting our current lives and also the future of the generations to come. That is why Christ’s words about greed, calling our attention to be vigilant with our own actions, are very current.

Three types of thirst

All this has been the result of an insatiable thirst that humanity has. This can be understood into three different levels, corresponding to two categories of action. Being:

  1. Physical;

  2. Emotional; and

  3. Spiritual.

The two categories in which they can manifest are: necessity and desire.

At the physical level, it is already common sense. When it is time, our bodies start to manifest the need for replenishing nutrients. So we go after material items that can do that, such as water or whatever else to drink. All with the sole purpose and moved by the need to resolve it and acquire “fuel”, that is, energy, to keep our bodies functioning. Another point needs to be made here, and it is connected with survival in regard to the changing environment that we’ve been going through for thousands of years. That is the acquisition of clothes, jackets, hats, shoes, a house, etc, all in which to survive the storms, the winter, the weather itself, and even to rest our bodies.

All that we discussed is necessary; it targets our survival directly in this world.

The other level is the heart, and it is moved by desire. What is it that your heart desires?

That can’t be satiated as the first one. It doesn't matter how many material things you acquire; it won't satiate the thirst. Unfortunately, Humanity still thinks it does, and its perspective of life is stuck in both levels, keeping an insatiable thirst.  This is caused at the same time as it is a result of empty hearts with unbalanced emotions.

The acquisition of material things will never be the solution; it will actually bring problems. As it is evident in Proverbs (15:27), and as Christ told us, “life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”

It will never be enough

Right now, the person can have the best house for their family, but with an empty heart, it's not enough. Now it has to be bigger, it has to build a pool, more rooms, more cars, even though there is enough for the family. The desire will persist because it is bound to a limited perception of life, one that is only seen with material eyes.

While humanity targets its heart's desire with the material side of life, it will never satiate its thirst.

The Spiritual Thirst

What is most interesting is that, in His Book of Revelation, Jesus revealed to us the consequences each one brings to our lives and the world. In the Four Trumpets (Rev 8:6-13), it is perceived that what is narrated corresponds to an objective aspect of the world and a subjective aspect of ourselves.

As it was discussed, the physical thirst manifests as a necessity for survival, and then goes after what the land/Earth can provide us. The emotional thirst presents the desire to satiate what is substantial to us, and brings a comprehension that it cannot be through finite things. What then represents the spiritual thirst? It is essentially the one that not only is sufficient in what it needs, but it can also attend to the other two.

Spiritual and material consequences

The greedy heart, in its insatiable thirst, will promote through the physical aspect the scorching of the Earth (first trumpet); meanwhile, the emotional aspect will bring the condemnation of the substance of life, the Sea (second and third trumpet). Even though what satiates the spiritual thirst is sufficient in itself, because of the wrongful doings of the other two, a corrupted energy emerges and affects the yet untouchable and imperceptible breath of life (fourth trumpet).

The Four Trumpets announce the dryness and scorching of the Earth in the current time and the future of subsequent generations; the contamination of the Sea of life, the marine life itself, as well as the substance of ourselves, our emotions, our hearts; and the corruption of what brings and expands life, the air, our essence itself.

Unfortunately, that has been our conscious or subconscious objective. People have been using what the world naturally gives us to show off their own imbalance, the contamination of their substance, the corruption of their intimacies. The irony is that it has been promoted as if it were nothing, but in reality, it is destroying our lives and the future generations.

Notice the contamination of the air. Its material pollution has helped in the development of allergies in an unprecedented way. I myself am allergic.

Humanity is in a period of time where it has become common to breathe pollution, chemicals, diseases… In spiritual terms, the air is what gives us life and expands our perception of life itself.

We’ve been breathing a spiritual pollution as well. One that has been polluting our origin, limiting our perception of life, and consequently alienating our minds. The concept here is that when you breathe air through your nostrils, you feed your brain to expand your perception of life.

In Genesis (2:7), we see the ancient wisdom that God has breathed life through our nostrils. And what happens after it, an expansion of the consciousness. You perceive life more brightly and are present in time. When you don't have air flowing through your nostrils, through your body, and in spiritual terms, when you don't have this clean energy going through your nostrils, going through your body, through your brain, you are having an alienated mind because you are only perceiving what is in that enclosed and polluted air.

Within this gruesome, polluted air, you are always trying to breathe for life, but in reality, you are drowning yourself in polluted mentalities, energies, and darkness that are alienating your mind from reality. You're not being conscious of your own thoughts, of your own actions, of what you are saying.

Now, if you are consciously looking to breathe that air, that’s pretty sad.

God’s fulfillment of His Laws

A time is coming when all that will change, as it is in the Book of Revelation of Jesus. The Trumpets not only announce the consequences of our actions, but also the consummation of the Divine Laws. Through the actions of the Angels, of the Spirits of light, of Christ Himself, of God Himself. There will be a change in the world. One that will prevent us from destroying planet Earth.

God will protect His creation, and it is precisely because of it that everyone will face His Justice according to our own actions. Everyone, without exception, even the ones who are working for the Divine Master, Jesus. That is the point of the Justice of God, to give accordingly to each one’s actions. Protecting what is divine and is created by Him.

The world itself won't be destroyed. The seas won't be destroyed. The air won't be polluted for eternity. All that will change. We, humanity, have to work to control our insatiable thirst and solve the problems we are creating. Otherwise, we will be the ones cursing God’s Laws and won’t be participants in His plans for a New Earth and a New Heaven (Rev 21) that Jesus Christ is bringing to all of us. Fearing what the eagle is saying after the sounding of the Four Trumpets (Rev 8:13):

“Woe! Woe! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth, because of the trumpet blasts about to be sounded by the other three angels!”

The consummation of God’s Laws in the Four Trumpets will happen, based on this insatiable thirst of our empty hearts. There is still time for us to repent, be open to the path of redemption Jesus is offering us, and be resurrected in His Divine Love and Mercy.

Jesus offers the solution

Christ offers us what is necessary for our change, so we don't destroy our own lives and try to destroy the world itself. He is the one who brings us what the spirit needs and attends to the insatiable thirst that we may have in our hearts, in our spirits. He shows us the reality of life, the spiritual dimension.

“Whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

Jesus (John 4:14)

The Beloved Friend is giving us the opportunity to drink a Living Water that will satiate the Spirit, which corresponds to the infinite, and consequently will satiate the other two: the Heart and the Body. Through the infinite, the spiritual and emotional thirst will be ceased, and naturally what is finite will be provided to what the body needs, but not in an abundant way, where the problem we discussed can emerge again.

No! It will be the promotion of a balanced life. That's what Christ is showing us.

Will you accept?
